Ireland dominate as Best plays final home Six Nations game

Ireland have revived their chances of lifting the 2019 Six Nations after beating France 26-14 in Dublin. The hosts were winning 26-0 until the 77th minute of the game when the French ran in two consolation tries in the dying minutes.

It was a totally dominant performance from the Irish, making seven clean breaks throughout the game and winning just about every collision in the first half.

It will also be a memorable day for Ireland captain Rory Best who not only scored for his country, but lead his side out for his last ever home game in the Six Nations.

Head coach Joe Schmidt might not be happy with the late tries from France, but the resurgence of his side will make the final weekend of the competition ever more exiting for the fans, with Wales and England also in the running for the title.

    Law question: should the first Irish try have been granted? The Irish ball carrier is tackled according to the definition of World Rugby: (i) put to the ground, (ii) at least one knee on the ground, (iii) held by the defender. The Irish player is tackled (two knees on the ground) and gets back up while being at all times held by the French defender.

      You are referring the definition of World rugby. if this was applied you would be right! However since two or three years the unofficial ruling is that the team who has the ball cannot get penalised! Look at ALL the supporting attacking players, there is always (this is not a figure of speech) at least one player supporting the ball carrier who is coming in from the side of the ruck or not supporting his body weight.  the ref know it, they are not blind, and it is not biaised in favor of one team or another it is just to maximize the number if try scored per game

      I thought the same. Also couldn’t understand how healy  was allowed to come from an offside position, dive over the ruck and nearly be awarded a try - think the ball only crossed the line after he knocked on. Should have been a clear penalty to France

        Constant forward momentum for Best's try and there is no offside once the ball touches the try line for the other

          Best's kne touches the ground therefore is is a tackle he should have released the ball before picking it up again. penalty to francethere are no offside line in the try zone, true, but he stands offside (in front of the hindmost foot of the participant of the ruck before the ball touches the try line and made no attempt to go back onside. penalty to france. (in addition he jumps on the knee of a player which could be considered dangerous play)

            These 2 incidents included, this ref was a shambles during the whole game with the kind of "hometown" 80's rugby decisions. Anyway, Ireland was the most physical side of the afternoon, so logic victory.

            Knee touches for a split second more from a slip than anything else, like saying a player sliding in for a try after being tackled should release. We had no people in that ruck Healy was standing onside behind the ruck, there are some  french players on the ground in front of it which his front foot is inline with true

              It is exactly why there something called double movement! if the player keep sliding it is fine but it is not allowed to push on his knees to extend the movement. Whether is is for a split second or for 3 min is absolutely relevant. it is like saying a pass was only slightly forward...
