South Africa got back on the wagon yesterday as they put away a plucky Italian team 63 – 21.
For the Azzurri they came into the game on the back of their best run of form for over twenty years having beaten Wales, Samoa and Australia in successive matches.
Having previously beaten the Springboks in 2016 during what is now known as “the dark days” for Bok rugby, the Azzurri fancied causing an upset.
In what was a tightly fought opening half an hour, Italy led the fixture at points before the Boks power simply steamrolled them.
Whilst the defeat will put a slight dampener on what has been a hugely promising November for the Italians. The emergence of fullback Ange Capuozzo as a World Class attacking threat is a hugely exciting development for Kieran Crowley’s team.
Capuozzo announced himself to the world in Italy’s big victory in Cardiff last season but has really cemented himself as one of the most exciting players heading into next year’s World Cup.
Once again today he was at the centre of everything good that the Italians did with this try being a major highlight.
Given the ball with plenty to do, the Toulouse flyer sliced through the Bok defence like a precision surgeon to put his side in front.
Possessing an outrageous turn of pace, an eye for the gap and silky running lines, Capuozzo has the makings of the next great Italian talent.
