Jaguares reach historic semi-final with victory over Chiefs in Buenos Aires

Jaguares made history on Friday evening when they beat the Chiefs 21-16 in Buenos Aires to reach the semi-finals of Super Rugby for the first time.

Flanker Pablo Matera got the Argentinian franchise off to the perfect start when he dived over the try line from close range inside the opening minute of the game.

The Chiefs responded mid way through the first half when scrum half Brad Weber sold a dummy 30 metres from the Jaguares try line and made a clean break down the centre of the field, before feeding Lachlan Boshier for five points under the posts.

At half time the Chiefs led 8-10 but just 10 minutes after the break Matias Moroni crossed the whitewash to score the Jaguares’ second try of the game.

From here just one added penalty from fly half Joaquin Diaz Bonilla was enough to see out the game and cause raucous celebrations from the touchline.

Jaguares will now play a home semi-final next weekend against either the Brumbies or the Sharks.
