The Stormers celebrated a return to Cape Town with a convincing 42-14 trouncing of top four rivals the Crusaders in the Super 14 on Friday. Centre Jaque Fourie scored two great tries as they beat the seven times champion Crusaders.
There were over 48 000 fans at Newlands to welcome the Stormers back as the two best defensive sides in the tournament battled it out in a game that ultimately came down to the boot of flyhalf Peter Grant, who kicked 27 points on his own.
The Crusaders scored twice, through Dan Carter and Colin Slade, but the Stormers managed three of their own with two to Fourie and one to big Fijian Sireli Naqelevuki.
The first try scored by Fourie was a classic as he used his deceptive speed and strength to glide past and fend off the Crusaders tacklers. The mob over the tryline gives you an idea of how good, and how valued that try was for the Stormers.
The second was a fairly simple finish to what was a great set piece move executed to perfection. Ricky Januaries timing and the injection of pace from Gio Aplon played a vital part in setting up Fourie for the run in.
With the win, the Stormers become the first South Africa side to ever record a clean sweep over all New Zealand sides in a Super Rugby season. Theyre looking good for a home semi final, but face two tough matches ahead, against both the Sharks and the Bulls.
