Jean-Pierre Perez loses the plot against Montpellier

Montpellier keep in touch with the top four of the Top 14 with a 22-11 win over Perpignan on Friday night. Early in the game the Catalans weren't helped by the sin-binning of fiery flanker, Jean-Pierre Perez.

Having scored early through number eight Alex Tulou, hosts Montpellier then capitalised on Perpignan being a man down as they scored another excellently taken try from fullback Lucas Gonzalez Amorosino.

The visitors were in that position because Perez, never one to shy away from a confrontation, looked determined to get himself sent off within ten minutes of kickoff.

First he swung an open hand 'punch' at Fulgence Ouedraogo for no real reason at all, then a minute later, he flew into Santiago Fernandez while making little effort to actually charge down the ball.

Ouedraogo dropped theatrically, making it look worse, but the ref and officials turned a blind eye, only marching Perpignan back ten metres. The charge down, they spotted that.

Perpignan came back into the game with a try from Rudi Coetzee and two penalties from Jerome Porical, but Montepellier had the final say as they scored in the second half through Mamuka Gorgodze. You can view highlights of the match here.

Great to hear. I have no experience in making videos, so apologies if it is a big ask. I just love those videos and they're what brought me to RD in the first place.

Have a browse through recent weeks/months via the 'next' link at the bottom of the homepage and you'll find daily highlights posts as well as every major incident that's taken place.

As for Try Savers & Rib Breakers, it takes a huge amount of work (and time) to produce them at a decent standard, hence there only ever being 11 over the years. Having said that, a RWC edition is 99% ready and TSRB13 will be started on soon.

Have to agree with Stroudos here.

That dive by Quadropopulos or what's his name, isn't called a Brussow for nothing, isn't is ;-)

Anyway, there hasn't been this much lousy acting since the last time Hollywood was on strike. It's really not good sport.

And as long as there is this kind of behaviour it's really no use complaining about a ref pulling out cards for dangerous tackling. The childish behaviour in this video is what makes rugby soft...

Personally I think card happy referee's that would produce a red for that open hand incident are a joke... but there we go I'm a second row...

Rolling around like a footballing princess clutching your face is clearly what happened here and not a case of "ouch that really did hurt!"

As a supporter I feel really sad for USAP this season.
But imo this video only shows how intense and hot blooded the game has been, especially from the USAP side. Honestly I totally understand JP Perez.
I was deceived as they did not score more in the 2nd half whereas they were completely dominating. I hope for the best against Biarritz.

Normally i would agree with you.... however...

At first it seemed to be a dive, but after watching the angle at the very end of the video, he hits him hard, and square on the chin. Just because it was open hand, doesn't mean it can't have impact and hurt a real lot. Think about when you are rough housing with kids, or your girlfriend/wife, and they accidentally elbow or knee you in the nose or chin. It may not drop you, but it hurts. Quite honesty, if Perez did hit me exactly the same as he hit Ouedraogo, i'd go down. I'd get back up and start swinging, but i'd still probably spend a few seconds on the floor, especially if I didn't see it coming.

Oh come on guys, don't be daft...

RD is coming up with the new series to reflect how the game has changed...

Its called "Penalty kicks and rib ticklers"

Try savers and rib breakers is now known as "the forgotten era and illegal tackles"

    *curse, moan, gripe, whine, complain*

    I second that!!

Try Savers & Rib Breakers 11 was a an absolute beauty - I still quite often watch it before leaving the house for the rugby club on a Saturday afternoon.

TSRB 12 is long overdue - it's not as if there's been a shortage of big hits.

Come on RD, it's what the fans want!!

yeah, a bit of a shame, really... even more when u know that Ouedraogo is a rock-solid player. should've been penalized as well for such bad acting. at least those behaviours

Ouedraogo milks it but he does get a nice punch in his face.

I'd say it was late. Anyway, it wasn't a tackle. It seemed like a combination of a body check and a forearm / elbow to the head. I'd say that's a little more serious than your average late hit.

Didn't expect that sort of acting from Ouedraogo.

Any chance you could get more clips like these RD? Posts like these and the Try Savers & Rib Breakers are what made this site good and unique and I can't remember seeing one in months. There certainly aren't anywhere close to as many as there used to be.

What is happening to the head or face of the 15 at 1:08 onwards?!?!?

    4:57 PM 15/02/2012

Am I the only one that saw very little in this video?!?

To me that open hand to the face was just stupid... however it was counteracted in my opinion by the most pathetic display faggotry I have seen since the last Frenchman went down diving... I am with Stroudos on this one, a lot of this **** seems to be coming from the French (Not all, but a lot!!)

Then the "late tackle" (Really?!? Late?!?) I'm going to watch it again...ok, I take it back, it was a bit late, had he been in "tackle position" I'd have said you're all nuts but he wasn't! (humble pie)

But honestly there wasn't much in it... yellow card worthy? When combined with his aggressiveness earlier then perhaps (if the referee noticed of course...) but on its own...

Sigh... breaking out the tutu for Saturdays game...

Even if he wasn't that much late, the complete lack of even trying to make it look like a wrapped arm tackle deserves the yellow by itself.

    1:57 PM 15/02/2012

WTF? How did he get away with that? Surely he can't claim mistaken identity, the ref's in completely different colours and it's nowhere near the ball! Funny though!

I love the Top 14 and the occasional argy-bargy. Cannot stand the embellishment (esp. from a great player like Kajagoogoo)

Que? Slow it down. He jumps into him with a hip and shoulder after the kick has been made. He never intended to pull out. Clear late, high, no arms tackle = lucky not to get a red card for mine.

    Hate the diving though.

Agree with stroudos. For me the worst part of the clip is the dive. Send him off instead.

Ouedraogo should get an oscar for that performance!

    1:35 PM 15/02/2012

What a great villain! Really looks the part doesn't he? Would be a good baddie in a film.

Tell you what though, something really must be done about these bloody footballer types falling theatrically to the ground. I hate to generalise, but this trend seems to be particularly prevalent in France. More disturbingly, it seems to be forwards doing most of the diving!!
