Josh Bassett signs for new premiership team after short stay at Harlequins

In exciting news for Leicester fans, Josh Bassett has agreed to join the Tigers following the conclusion of the 2022/23 season.

The flying winger joined Harlequins towards the end of last year after his former side Wasps entered administration, making all players and staff redundant. Since arriving at Harlequins, Bassett has filled in for a backline struggling heavily with injuries.

"He is a prolific try-scorer, hard-working player who offers plenty in defence out wide. He adds great competition to our outside-backs," said Tigers head coach Richard Wigglesworth.

At the time of joining the famous Harlequins outfit, Bassett had the following to say: “I’m excited to join Harlequins and am grateful for the opportunity to jump straight back into action with such a prestigious club. Quins play an exciting brand of rugby and I’m looking forward to trying my hand at the Harlequins Way of playing.”

Bassett has picked up three tries for the Twickenham-based side so far this season. His strike rate comes as no surprise to many who have enjoyed this players talents over the years.

Bassett made his premiership debut for Wasps back in 2013 in a closely fought loss against the then-relative newcomers, Exeter Chiefs. For the next three years, Bassett found himself with limited game time, until 2016 when he hit his breakthrough year as he became a first-team regular with the side. It was also this year that he found himself chosen as the Premiership 7s Player of the Year.

The 30-year-old winger is known for his terrific pace and finishing ability. Despite his clear talents and attacking prowess, Bassett has yet to force his way into the full national setup, besides the odd training camp with England.
