Kolisi teams up with former South Africa cricket captain

South Africa captain Siya Kolisi has continued to work throughout the COVID-19 pandemic through the Kolisi Foundation, and has recently teamed up with cricketer Faf du Plessis.

The 28-year-old has been documenting the work of his organisation over the past few weeks since its inception, as they have delivered medical supplies to hospitals and food to people in need.

The flanker, who has become nothing short of a national hero after guiding his country to Rugby World Cup glory last November, shared photos on Instagram of himself next to du Plessis, who was the captain of South Africa before recently standing down. The pair were wearing PPE equipment as they handed out supplies to people in Bonteheuwel, Cape Town, where Kolisi plays his domestic rugby for the Stormers.

This is what was said by the foundation on Instagram:

“Through the past few weeks we have been amazed and blessed with beautiful stories of hope. Stories of ordinary citizens doing amazing work to support their neighbors and communities... They are truly the heroes to be celebrated!

The Kolisi Foundation partnered with Faf and Imari du Plessis by donating food to the community street feeding scheme in Bonteheuwel consisting of approximately 50 streets.

Today was special as we saw the power of communities stepping up and striving to solve problems to provide sustainable food alleviation.”

We believe in the power of thankfulness and in this time especially being reminded that we can achieve so much more by working together. Today serves as a special thank you from the Kolisi Foundation Founders @siya_kolisi_the_bear and @rachel_kolisi to all the partners and organisation who contributed towards the Zwide & Makhanda food-drop: @imbumbafoundation @nelsonmandelafoundationsa @ubuntupathways @mercedesbenzsa @redbullza @blackbeanproductions @printtag_cpt @67blankets @goodbyemalaria @adidasza @wildernessfoundation @pandemicactionnetwork Thinkst Applied Research Aspen
