Argentina kicked a 78th minute penalty to take the lead and edge out South Africa 26-24 in a tense Rugby Championship second round Test in Salta on Saturday evening. Following their first ever win over the Springboks last year, this was the first time they had ever beaten them at home.
Replacement flyhalf Santiago Gonzalez Iglesias kicked a late penalty to give Argentina their second win over the Springboks in 24 encounters, and their first at home.
"Argentina were very good while we made a lot of errors," said Springboks skipper and hooker Adriaan Strauss. "We need to take a long, hard look at ourselves and fix what has gone wrong before playing in Australia and New Zealand next month."
Despite South Africa missing some kicks at goal and having some opportunities they should have converted, the hosts played some excellent attacking rugby and were deserving of the famous win, especially as they had two key playmakers leave the field to injury in the second half.
The tournament goes to Twickenham Stadium for the first time on October 8, with Argentina v Australia.
