Mack Hansen gets Andy Farrell’s face tattooed on leg

With the World Cup just under 100 days away, players will shortly be finding out whether they’ve done enough to make the journey to France with their national side. For many it’s a nervous wait after years of hard graft and sacrifices.

Well, as far as sacrifices go, Mack Hansen of Ireland has gone a step further to make his World Cup dreams become a reality. The Connacht player has given up his own thigh to tattoo the face of none other than Ireland head coach, Andy Farrell.

Sharing the incredible tattoo on Twitter, former Scotland lock Jim Hamilton has shown the world the fresh, and possibly terrifying, ink.

This all came about thanks to a bet between the two men surrounding the recent Six Nations fixture between Scotland and Ireland, which Jim incidentally lost meaning that he needs to get Hansen’s name tattooed. However, recently making a guest appearance on ‘The Big Jim Show’, Hansen promised to also get a tattoo of his coach before the World Cup:

Jim Hamilton: “Tattoos - there is an "IOU." I might try and come to Connacht and get it before the World Cup.”

Mack Hansen: “I still need my Andy Farrell tattoo as well, so we'll lock it in.”

Jim: “Let's nail this down, I'll go first. I'm getting a tattoo of "Big Mack" - with a "k" - because we had a bet on during the Rugby Pod before the Six Nations. I said Scotland would beat Ireland, you said Ireland would beat Scotland, and the loser had to get the other person's name. You're gonna get Andy Farrell? Definitely?”

Mack: “I have to. I'm a man of my word. I'll get it done soon, I'd say.”

Not one to back away from a promise, Hansen has followed through on his word. As bizarre as this may seem, it’s not the first time the in-form winger has inked himself, saying:

“Oisin Dowling on my leg is pretty grim - my missus was pretty spewing about that, especially because I don't have a tattoo of her. When I got an actual face of just one of my mates she wasn't very happy with that.

“I've also got recently...Peter Dooley, his dad's name is Gerry and I call him Gerry all the time, so I got "Gerry Dooley" on my leg in nice running writing. That's pretty horrendous. That's one that I'll probably look back on in a few years and think "ah, fuck, what was I thinking?”

A great character to have around the squad for sure, you only have to look back at this famous interview to understand what he brings to the team. Hansen will no doubt be an important cog both on and off the field for Ireland come September.
