Malakai Fekitoa heroics leads to sensational try for Toulon

The French Top 14 delivered yet more exciting action this past weekend, with All Black centre Malakai Fekitoa producing a magic flick-back to set up Josua Tuisova's try in Toulon's defeat to Stade Français.

It's the sort of pass commonly seen in rugby league, whereby a player keeps the ball alive by flicking the ball back into play when it would otherwise go dead, and Fekitoa pulled it off with superb skill.

Full back Jonah Placid initiated the move with a probing grubber through the Stade defence, and the speed of Fekitoa to get anywhere near the ball once in the dead-ball area was key to making the try.

Meanwhile, the Stade winger went flying over the advertising hoardings after his effort to thwart Fekitoa.

Tuisova then latched onto the loose ball, scoring the try.

Ultimately, the effort was in vain as Toulon slumped to their third defeat in four games at the start of the season.

Stade, with the help of Gael Fickou returning to his mercurial best, proved the far better side and secured a 37-10 victory at the Stade Jean-Bouin.

Indeed, Fickou was in fine form with two tries in his first season with the Parisian side. He showed a clean pair of heels after excellently stepping the Toulon defenders Guilhem Guirado and Marcel van der Merwe to bag his second try of the match.
