Marcelo Bosch takes over from Owen Farrell to land huge penalty kick

Marcelo Bosch played his part as Saracens extended their lead at the top of the Aviva Premiership table by beating Northampton Saints 28-24 on Sunday. Bosch scored one of three tries, but this massive penalty from about 58m out impressed the most.

It's not the biggest ever seen - Francois Steyn of the Sharks did the same thing twice at the weekend - but the casual strike from Bosch and the way it sailed through was something to behold.

Argentine Bosch took over from Farrell when the long distance kick opportunity arose. The England flyhalf didn't emerge after half time, instead ending up on crutches with a foot injury.

"Owen Farrell will resume training towards the end of this week," said a Saracens statement today.

"The Saracens and England fly-half sustained a foot injury during the match against Northampton Saints on Sunday, but scans have indicated no serious damage."

    Good kick
    But nowadays, u've got many kickers who can achieve these 50-60m penalties
    Few years ago, it was a sort of breakfast exercise for a guy like Beauxis

    If he kicks anything like me then putting in 110% effort into a kick will make it go about 5-10 metres distance in total and sideways with probably about half a metre of height gained at it's peak....

    It's the ones that I don't even'try for before training that sail beautifully over with distance to spare...

    I think the reaction from the commentator was because of the contrast between his very care-free and casual kicking style and the significant distance achieved, rather than just the extreme range.

    He has a great boot on him, and if he was in South Africa he would have even more distance on his kicks. His style is beautiful aswell because he doesn't force it, you see some players try kicks from 45-55m and they come well short of what they can normally do because they try their hardest to smack the leather off the ball. This kick must have gone 65m.

    Yeah this debate has happened for a while, I think it's fine as it is. How many times do you see teams giving away penalty after penalty because it's only 3 points, you reduce it down too 2 points and you can give away 3 penalties before it becomes a problem. A better way of doing it is either increasing points given too tries or yellow cards given more frequently for repeat infringements.

    Would like to see a better view of him kicking the ball if/when it becomes available.. But a wonderful monster kick :D
