Matthew Morgan scores 90m solo effort for Ospreys against Edinburgh

Young Matthew Morgan scored an outstanding try for Ospreys as they maintained their RaboDirect Pro12 unbeaten record by beating Edinburgh 44-10 at the Liberty Stadium. His step, acceleration then all out gas added to the spectacle for the home crowd.

Morgan, still just 21-years-old, came on as a replacement and didn't take long to make his mark, breaking from deep by getting the better of a one-on-one with a trademark jink.

"It was classic Matthew Morgan," said Ospreys assistant coach Gruff Rees.

"I was pleased Ashley Beck was looking for the shift in possession from deep, showing he wants to play from that area. It gave Matthew the opportunity to have a look, drop his shoulder and exploit that one on one. We knew that good is in Matthew's game."

Nikki Walker came close to making a great try-saving tackle, but the TMO ruled that Morgan grounded the ball on or over the line, so the try stood, and Morgan went on to slot the conversion.

    Ignoring rugby08's utter drivel - irresponsible not to list players flaws? I hope you don't go into coaching - I think Swing and Clarky have both got a point.
    Matthew Morgan is undoubtedly an extremely talented player who doesn't have the physical attributes of your Biggars or Patchells. He does have, arguably, more 'natural' rugby flair than them - and his record does show he's got a better strike rate than Biggar - and has that X-Factor that sets him apart from others, but he does have flaws in his game - let's call them areas to develop Clarky.
    Unfortunately the regional setup doesn't allow for player development. There are only 4 regular competitive places each week in each position. The only way your MMs are going to progress and therefore develop are to play competitive rugby week in, week out. If he did I'd be confident he'd tick off Clarky's list of areas to develop.
    In an ideal world he'd be playing regularly for Swansea, Neath or Bridgend but they, understandably, want to keep the same set of core players for a season and are reluctant to make changes. So instead players like MM sit on the bench for the Os or sit in the stands watching. Contrary to popular belief I think Wales does have strength in depth in lots of positions, but we don't have enough experienced players. The 'tour that shall never be mentioned' is an indication of that. Talented players but totally out of their depth.
    If he had played regularly for the Os for the past two seasons, I'm sure he would've eliminated any flaws in his game - Biggar did - and I see no reason why he wouldn't have been involved with Wales in some way. Can you imagine him coming off the bench and running at tired defenders?

    I think it's more than reasonable to list a players flaws, in fact i think it's irresponsible no to and just gloss over them which you and Swing are doing.

    The thing is that his flaws are major reasons why he isn't a international player at the moment and probably won't be for a long time if ever.

    If you think it's reasonable to list one of your own players flaws then fair enough. Glad you're at the Os

    Yes Ospreys supporters do rave about the good things he does but they are also highly critical of his many flaws.

    Clarky is being completely reasonable with his comments while you are just a plain and simple fan boy.

    Assuming you haven't got a crystal ball and can't see into the future I'm just being 'objective' and pointing out that Morgan scores more points per game than Biggar in significantly less game time. The maths speaks for itself. I'm a fan of both but know which one I'd rather see play but that's my opinion. Regardless, I wouldn't come on here and slag either of them off.

    As for my comment on the "flair" of the "ssidestep" king of the "flayhalves", it was sarcasm mate. If you can't get excited about players with flair you're probably watching rugby for the wrong reason.

    You trying to imply that he was a better player than Biggar next season? Back to the 70s in your second sentence. Reinforces my point perfectly. The game has moved on. A flayhalf needs more than a ssidestep and some "flair".

    Whilst sporting rivalry dictates that I point out that being a season ticket holder at the Os hardly gives you the credentials to talk rugby ;) I'll admit I don't watch them regularly but what I've seen I've been impressed with. If this lad had been developing his rugby at a competitive level rather than benchwarming, occasional cameo or obligatory loan to Cwmflipflop once a month to show how the regions 'work' imagine where he'd be now.

    On a more serious note though are you really an Os supporter? The ones I know rave about him rather than produce a list of his flaws. Pretty sure supporters are generally supportive of their players rather than slating them.

    Great player. Great talent. Should've seen more. Hopefully will. Wish he was ours!

    At 21 this is the kind of lad who should have been starting regularly for the Ospreys for the past two seasons and have a dozen plus caps. Every time I see him play he's electric - and no, I'm not an Os supporter. Yes he's small but so what? Look at 1/2p!
    Don't want to take anything away from the current Welsh 10s but I'd rather see a lad with talent like this in that shirt than a generic percentage playing clone. Guess the way Hook's been treated will give an indication to how Morgan's career will go :(

    No but a great step, awareness (diving b4 the line upon sensing the tackle was coming) ball handling (keeping the ball in two hands to create the one v one, switching hands upon the tackler approaching) and open field running does.
