Montpellier turn it on at home against Stade Francais

Montpellier scored some outstanding tries as they made a challenge for the Top 14 playoffs with their 38-6 demolition of Stade Francais on Friday. It took a while for them to get going but once they did, they did it in style.

Fijian winger Timoci Nagusa played a large part in the first try, a genuine contender for try of the season. He combined brilliantly with flyhalf Francois Trinh-Duc as they found some open space and counter-attacked from deep in their half.

While two forwards were up in support, it was Argentinian wing Martin Bustos Moyano that got on the end of the 80m effort. Moyano actually ended with a personal tally of 26 points as he scored two tries and kicked the points for the home side.

Nagusa and South African centre Paul Bosch also scored great tries on what was a brilliant night for the Montpellier backs overall. Monster Georgian forward Mamuke Gordgodze also deserves a mention though, as does dynamic Fijian number eight Masi Matadigo.

It was Montpellier's third successive win in the competition and they now sit in fifth place in the standings. Enjoy the highlights below that show Montpellier playing some unbelievable rugby.

Agree with all that, except the overly modest comment at the end about England! Wales will be a tough match for France - I predict it will be the highlight of the tournament, not least because it's a re-match following the world cup, but also I expect France to go into that game on the final weekend chasing a Grand Slam, having had home advantage against England & Ireland. My hunch is that the Wales game in the Millennium Stadium will just be a little bit too much to ask - Wales and their supporters will want that game so badly I think the passion will see them scupper France's grand slam.

OK, England are an unknown quantity this year and I'll be hoping for the best, but I reckon the championship will be between France and Wales.

I heard that during RWC 2011, Trinh-Duc had some personality conflicts with the other players. Is there a chemistry problem in the French team, whereby only some players get on with others?

Mate, I was replying to the video "Guest" posted, showing Juan Imhoff being completely bowled by Chris Tolofua. Have a look, it's pretty spectacular.

@RD - a definite contender for inclusion in the - highly overdue - next installment of "Rib Breakers".............

Gotta love the Top 14! That counter-attacking try from the 22m restart was sublime...

Trinh-Duc I believe should start as 10 for France. I am not impressed by Beauxis, he's in a good shape but is not that great ball in hand plus he is slow.

Like Stroudos said, Trinh-Duc always played his utterly best during the WC every time he had the opportunity and showed his skills. Great hands, good tackler, good kicking and very opportunistic.

    Go on Montpellier!!

I met Galthie in a bar in Toulouse: very nice, opened, funny man. Hopes he wins the championship this time!

Trinh-Duc just showed everybody that he can kick in the game, brilliantly. Nagusa was really intelligent on this action, he's been playing very well with Montpelier for a while now.
Doesn't matter where you place Gorgodze, he's everywhere! He's also on support on the first try.

Trinh-Duc looks very handy here. The 22 drop-out was inch perfect and so were two little chips for the tries later on. I also think the way he responded to Lievremont's treatment at the world cup was exemplary too. Don't get why he didn't take Montpellier's place kicks - never seemed to be a weakness for him?

Bloody love that 22 drop out try. Great understanding between Trinh-Duc and Nagusa and some lovely hands from there on.

Was Gorgodze wearing #5? Who've Montpellier got at openside then - must be bloody brilliant to have evicted Gorgodze from the 7 shirt. Didn't see much of the 7 here but what I did see looked tidy enough. Agree with RD, #8 looks very impressive.

Guest - good call, that is an incredible collision. Imhoff seemed to float in mid-air! I would not like to try and tackle that monster...
