Naked streaker starts mass brawl after tackling Varsity match winger

The annual Varsity match between Northumbria and Newcastle University took an unfortunate turn for the worse when a streaker took to the field, pipe and all, and attempted to make a tackle out on the wing. He then snuck away, as chaos ensued.

Streakers are usually quite comical and stay out of the way but this guy was fearless, slotting into the Team Northumbria backline as if he were one of the players. He helped to bring down Newcastle's winger, before they piled into him, which Northumbria took exception to.

He then snuck off unharmed, pipe still in mouth, while the two sides had a go at one another. The crowd soon joined, and it was quite an ugly scene - reportedly not the first of the match, after a player had already been yellow carded for fighting.

"This is the worst thing to have happened in the history of the clash of the titans," said the dramatic Newcastle Student Radio commentary.

The naked man avoided security and scampered off, safely exiting stage right as the fans from both sides chanted and added to the mayhem.

Northumbria won the clash 29-10, with their coach later commenting "It's always hard in a derby match". In this case, we can only hope he was referring to the match.

Why did the ref blow the whistle? The try was still on, he could have just played advantage.

    This is an interesting and funny business model (although really worrying if it gets out of hand);

"Naked Streaker". A streaker, by definition, is naked. Anyone running onto the pitch with clothes on is just a lowly pitch invader. Or maybe a player, but I've seen some games that have made me think "This guy must have lost a bet.".
The pipe is a nice touch though.

Here's the Baenhoff tackle (and by tackle I mean the hit). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P2dozu9rQ7c

Best comeuppance for a pitch invader has to be this fool who gets himself knocked out cold trying to tackle Louis Koen as he slots a conversion for the Boks. Conversion sails over, and Koen barely glances down at the tackler as he picks up his tee. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dlLtlJsNfUA

They had to. He was badly exposed.

Yes I do. But I would also expose myself as a massive hypocrite if I came down too hard on him.

My all time favourite streaker in history is a guy who did something remarkably similar - google Brian Baenhoff, the youtube video is of him tackling a guy in a Currie Cup play-off game (his intervention probably decided the match). I can't regard Mr Baenhoff as a legend and see Mr Toon Varsity-Derby Pipe-guy as a complete douche. That would be reflect badly on me.

Do you not think he took it a bit far by actually interfering with the play? One thing is going on at a break in play and running around a bit, but another is actually interfering with play and putting one team at a disadvantage.

I'm not sure you can call this streaking, he was wearing about as much kit as you'll see on an average punter on a night out in Newcastle.

Anyway, I guess in the end you respect a guy who puts his junk on the line like this. And he gets extra style points for the other pipe.

The best part of this is how the black team comes in to defend the streaker!

The pipe was fantastic. But im with Stroudos above... If you actually engage with the players like this, you're putting future streakers at risk and justifying tackles like the one on the Dunedine Streaker or the use of tasers like the infamous Phillies fan incident (American Baseball).

Just stick to stripping and running around - it's plenty of amusement watching security trip over themselves. No need to involve the players.

Looks like someone misunderstood this passage of the Streaker's Handbook:
"Get on the pitch and show everyone your tackle".

Lovely bit of exaggeration and hyperbole from the commentator - is it Stuart Barnes's son on work experience?

So, I'm usually an ardent defender of streakers' rights, but clearly this twat has taken things too far. However, I have to say, the pipe was a nice touch.
