Namibia captain receives awful backlash from trolls on social media following unfortunate DuPont hit

Namibia went down 96-0 to a full strength France side last night in what one could argue was the most one sided match of the competition so far.

The Namibian side put up a spirited display which saw each and every player put their heart, soul and body on the line to make their country proud against the talented hosts. France sadly proved far too strong thanks to their gliding backline, fearsome forwards, and talismanic captain, Antoine DuPont.

Despite the gigantic scoreline, the biggest talking point of the match was the exclusion from the field of DuPont. Like Romaine Ntamack, the French captain has now had his World Cup placed in jeopardy thanks to a suspected fractured jaw.

This will likely keep the France captain sidelined for most of, if not all of, the World Cup.

The tackle itself, whilst reckless, was certainly not seen to be malicious. The 6 ft Namibian centre was seen to express severe remorse following the collision before he took his marching orders.

Following his time in the bunker, his initial yellow card was upgraded to a red, putting his own World Cup in jeopardy.

Unfortunately this has put Deysel in the firing line of internet trolls, who have since piled on the Namibian captain from the safety of their own computer screens. Such is the abuse that the 31-year-old has received, he has now been forced to change his Instagram privacy settings.

Whilst it is unfortunate that France are now without their incredible captain for what appears to be the remainder of the tournament, it is important to remember the values that make this game so great.

What happens on the field, stays on the field.
