Crusaders wing Nemani Nadolo will be out of action for four weeks following a dangerous tackle that he made against the Brumbies in round nine of Super Rugby this past weekend. The Fijian giant pleaded guilty to the charge following a citing.

Shortly before halftime Nadolo contravened Law 10.4 (j) Lifting Tackle: Lifting a player from the ground and dropping or driving that player into the ground whilst that player's feet are still off the ground such that the player's head and/or upper body come into contact with the ground is dangerous play.

SANZAAR Duty Judicial Officer Chris Morris accepted the guilty plea, after Nadolo had lifted Brumbies halfback Tomas Cubelli and placed him in a dangerous position.

In his finding, Morris ruled the following: "After careful consideration of the available evidence and the very helpful submissions of Mr Aaron Lloyd the offence was categorised as low-end which carries a four (4) weeks suspension.

"I took into account as mitigating factors the player's disciplinary record after a lengthy professional career, his guilty plea and the fact that the tackle was reckless rather than deliberate.

"The Player was therefore given a two week discount on the original sanction creating a recommended sanction of two (2) weeks."

An additional two weeks were added due to World Rugby's memorandums on lifting tackles and need to deter players from offending in this way.

The ban is for four weeks but effectively covers just three Super Rugby matches, as proof was provided showing that he would have played in a club match this coming weekend.

The thing is, what about multiple offences or repeat offenders, cheap shots etc.. I came into the rugby scene probably around the same sort of time as the TMO for trys - back when rucking was acceptable. I love the game, I don't like the way it's turned/turning somewhat, however as above, I don't think bans are a bad thing if they're used properly.

This is never a ban, couple of players having a disagreement and clocking each other, again never a ban in my eyes... However when you have repeat offenders say the likes of Cudmore, I don't see why bans and cards are a bad thing. I'd be happier if there was some sort of clear guidelines that were adhered to for bans, rather than having some sort of ban lottery where things are seemingly picked at random.

Disrespect to refs, kicking to the head or groin, failed PED test, attacks at eyes, and using foreign objects are the only transgressions worth multi-game bans. These things are uncommon in rugby.

A bad tackle, contact with a player in the air, or punching should not be bannable offenses. These things are quite common in rugby.

If you have only been around rugby since the tmo era rugby was better when players sorted out the game themselves. Let's take citing commissions and their inconsistent rulings out of rugby and just play!

What irritates me is that all these bans are supposedly for red card offences. How this is ever a red card offence is beyond me, and you can argue this for many of the bans being dished out at the moment. Even Marler's shin to the head!

The thing is, I'm not against bans.....(I refuse to say 'per se' here)... But this ban is ridiculous...

What I find is that bans are somewhat important in order to remove the player from the game until he learns to play nicely or he gets put into a place where he doesn't play as many games as others because he's sitting on the side line...

Perhaps I'm bringing up the best (or worst) examples, which support my case, but a couple of weeks ago we had a video of a South American player kicking someone in the head/face. More recently we've had Silvere Tian abusing a referee. Then when you consider the numerous gouging cases we've had over the last few years - gouging is disgusting and something I wish didn't exist. All of the above says to me that bans aren't a bad thing. I have to admit bans are not so much a deterrent, but more a punishment.

....but of course, to reiterate my first comment about THIS ban...GTFO!

Imagine a world with no bans...it's not hard if you try. We had it for 180 years.

2 extra weeks because World Rugby sent a series of memos...

I read that as "Ban doubled due to him being Fijian, as recommended in memo"
