Top Kiwi referee shares horrendous abuse he has received post Super Rugby final

Top Kiwi referee Ben O’Keefe had the mountainous task of refereeing the 2023 Super Rugby grand final between rivals the Crusaders and Chiefs.

The Crusaders would go on to secure a seventh consecutive title and, with it send Scott ‘Razor’ Robertson off on a high note.

As ever, there were several contentious moments throughout the fixture, but from a neutral standpoint, neither side appeared to get favoured by the officials.

Yet, despite what was a cracking fixture, the Chiefs fans insisted on booing the match officials as they went up to receive their medals.

As if this show of disgust wasn’t enough, O’Keefe would be subjected to a series of horrendous online messages.

Clearly, people were frustrated with the result, but as ever social media acted as a melting pot for the worst group of people in today’s society.

Ben O'Keeffe speaks out and shares some of the nice messages he has gotten.
