Another fantastic rugby year has come and passed as we now look forward to 2012, which has many big things in store for loyal Rugbydump followers. For now though let's end 2011 with two big hits from a few days back in the Aviva Premiership.

Perhaps more than any of the five years we've been running, 2011 has seen great strides made in terms of getting the website in a position for genuine growth. With the platform and relationships in place, RD will continue to improve, grow, and diversify over the next year. Those of you who visit regularly will start seeing the changes take place and your online rugby experience will soon improve significantly.

As always, the site is driven by user interaction and feedback though, so keep in touch and make sure you share your thoughts and ideas with us via our rapidly growing social media channels on Twitter and Facebook. Site traffic has also reached record levels in recent months, so keep visiting and sharing the love, and we'll keep improving. Win-win for everyone.

Back to this clip, and it features Bath's Nick Abendanon smashing Lee Dickson as Saints attempted a move off the back of the scrum a few days back. The impact was massive and might have been called a shoulder by some cynics, despite it looking okay to the officials. Dickson unfortunately appeared to bite his tongue, which would not have been the most pleasant thing to experience while getting smashed to the floor.

George Pisi got a bit of revenge a few minutes later though, as he flew at Abendandon in another crunching hit. The Bath fullback has a bit of a history with Samoans actually, so make sure you check out the related posts below which include a few huge tackles on the poor guy.

We'd like to wish you a very Happy New Year. Stay safe and have a brilliant 2012!

And filth your attitude is part of the reason rugby will encounter a concussion epidemic like American football and hockey. The game has changed in that the players are bigger, stronger, faster and better prepared than ever. Without careful scrutiny these big hits will inevitably lead to serious injuries, which despite the giving you the obvious visual satisfaction you so desparately need, aren't good for the game.

If you wish to watch a sport where there is little regard for the participants (and the easily influenced young spectators who will try to emulate their heroes) may I suggest cock fighting?

I agree with the above comment, attempt to wrap should count for nothing as I believe it can be faked.

On another note I hope Dickson gets a run in the 6 nations. He has neither the flash nor flair of care or young and he is considerably slower and less physically talented than both, yet his team continues to win and he is always tenacious and aggressive and delivers a good ball.

Alan and the like, you are the reason why rugby is going soft. Please go back to Ballet you clowns. You haven't got a clue about the game.

It's interesting that all they have to do is "attempt" to wrap the arms... Both fail dismally. Why is it that in this regard the intention is all important while often it is the result that counts? Just in the name of consistency across the game...

I happen to have played rugby and still play regularly. And I do know how to tackle. You should review the meaning of "obvious", I'm not english but I know it.
You should also learn union rules and watch less american football and more rugby.

first tackle was massive and just appeared to be a "bump" because of the impact. lookin at abendanon reaction after the tackle, it was not malicious.
on pisi one, it's clearly a revenge with a shoulder

i bet that in the future, it will be more and more difficult to watch and appreciate perfect tackle as the rugby league begins to influence this part of the XV game

Both are not tackles but bumps, which is not legal according to rugby laws.
It's not about deserving or whatever, but if you want to be fair it's a yellow for both Abendanon and Pisi : absolutely not atempt to wrap the arms around the oponent.
I agree it's spectacular but they are not playing bumper cars.

Yes, and we can also see on the replay Pisi holding Abendanon's leg after the tackle when he tries to get up. Not so bad anyway, but I'm just noticing.

Take it you've never touched a rugby ball, Alan.

Anyone who says that tackle was illegal is incredibly stupid. Perfect tackle. Rugby is a contact sport get over it!

I was half expecting that Blazeby, 6 sometimes 7, was going to run on and smash Pisi after that tackle.

The first tackle seemed very similar to a the Paul Williams tackle from the world cup that was deemed dirty by so many people.

Actually, maybe I'm being harsh. The Pisi tackle was worse and he didn't say anything about that to be fair to him.

Tackle's pretty close to the edge of the laws, if not over the edge. Funny that Barnes doesn't even touch on that when he usually jumps in at the hint of foul play... I wonder why.

if Bath has personal injury insurance, does the insurer pay if Abendanon's injury were caused by criminal negligence (i.e. Olly Barkley)?
