Northampton Saints announce Dan Biggar replacement

Huge news came out of Northampton last week when it was announced that Welsh legend Dan Biggar will leave the club after 5 years.

Although Biggar is unsure of what his next steps will be, it seems as though the club has wasted no time in choosing his successor, as Saints have announced the signing of current Worcester Warriors fly-half, Fin Smith.

Saying it is big shoes to fill would be an understatement, but nevertheless the rugby community seems to think Northampton have picked up a real gem in Smith.

In recent seasons, the No.10 has been tipped to become one of the hottest prospects in rugby, and Northampton are hoping he will live up to such expectations.

The signing is being described as a 'multi year' deal and in all honesty has been one of the worst kept secrets in rugby. It has been rumoured for quite some time that Saints were interested in Smith and this was only heightened by the exchange he had with Dan Biggar last season.

Smith has been a regular in the England U-20 side and was instrumental in Worcester Warriors Premiership Rugby Cup win last season.

On the move, Saints head coach Phil Dowson told the BBC "Fin is definitely a player who has been on our radar for a long time,"

"He is someone that always takes the ball to the line, makes good decisions from an attacking point of view, has a bit of flair about him with an offloading game, and is incredibly brave and tough in defence.

"If you put that sort of skillset together with that attitude, you've got a really high-potential player who is really keen to compete - but at the age of just 20 he's got a lot of learning and growing to do as well."
