Stuart Hogg had a night to forget in Scotland’s recent encounter with France on Saturday night. The Scots were comfortably defeated 36 - 17.
Stuart Hogg found himself making some crucial errors during the match. Errors that prove to be very costly at test level.
Hogg was caught badly out of position off a maul which subsequently led to an easy French try, via a pinpoint cross kick from Romain Ntamack. Additionally, Hogg also missed out on a promising try scoring opportunity through a dropped pass.
Rob Kearny, the recently retired former Irish Fullback was critical when discussing Hogg’s performance. Stating Hogg was “badly caught out of position…a fullback, if the winger is out on the far edge, it’s your job to cover him if there is a kick there.”
Shange Horgan was also critical in his analysis of Hoggs game. Saying “he makes one or two errors every game. He’s not the complete player.”
Footage of Finn Russell has also surfaced showing some lazy play from the Scotsman. Not sprinting back to rejoin the defensive line is never a good look. Especially considering Russell is generally considered a world class flyhalf, and one of the leaders within the Scottish team.
Nonetheless, France have shown they are the team to beat so far in the Six Nations. Undefeated after three matches the French are playing sublime rugby. With strong combinations all over the park they seem to only be improving. Wales will certainly be wary this weekend when they come up against the in form French after a narrow defeat to England.
