NRL Coach Fires Back At Eddie Jones

England head coach Eddie Jones has once again had his name in the news following his shock revelation about his “dream job”.

An avid rugby league fan growing up, Jones pointed out that the Sydney Rabbitohs would be his destination of choice if he was to coach in the NRL.

Undoubtedly one of Unions greatest coaches, Jones will remain as head coach of England until the end of next year’s Rugby World Cup.

After that he will be a free agent who will certainly have several suitors lining up for his services.

Rugby Australia the governing body of Rugby Union in the country have reportedly already made a play for Jones’s services.

As hosts of the World Cup in 2027, Australia will be hoping bringing in Jones will aid with lifting the Wallabies back to previous heights.

Should Jones choose to switch his allegiances to the 13-man code, he would certainly garner interest.

Current Rabbitohs coach Jason Demetriou was less than impressed with Jones publicly announcing his interest in his job.

Asked whether he would ring Jones to bounce some ideas off the England coach.

“Obviously you don’t want to give up your job but is he someone that you would potentially get in contact with and and get to know and get some advice from?” the reporter asked.

“No,” Demetriou replied.

“Not interested at all?” the reporter asked.

“Nah,” Demetriou replied.

“If he wants to give me a call and have a chat, by all means, happy to do that,”

“But advertising yourself through the press is probably not the way to go about it.” He concluded.

Demetriou was responding to an interview Jones gave earlier in the week

“If there was an opportunity there (in the NRL) I would jump at it, but the reality is it’s probably not going to be there,” Jones said.

“(South Sydney) would be the dream team. That would be the dream. From the age of five, I’ve supported Souths. That would be fantastic."

“I loved the old teams with Ronnie Coote, Bob McCarthy, John Sattler and Eric Simms.”
