Quins secure experienced Wasps superstar in huge boost to the side

Harlequins boast some of the most exciting talents in the English premiership, so it's no surprise to see them picking up another thrilling winger to thrill the Twickenham Stoop crowd.

They currently have the likes of Caden Murley, Joe Marchant, Nick David, Oscar Beard, and of course Louis Lynagh all competing for places out on the wing. Despite all these incredible players being on the end of a truly mesmerising backline, Quins have gone ahead and popped another name onto the roster.

Wasps flyer Josh Bassett has today been named as a Quins player, and will no doubt be a great new addition to the squad, particularly with their current injury list out wide.

Bassett made his premiership debut for Wasps back in 2013 in a closely fought loss against the then-relative newcomers, Exeter Chiefs. For the next three years, Bassett found himself with limited game time, until 2016 when he hit his breakthrough year as he became a first-team regular with the side. It was also this year that he found himself chosen as the Premiership 7s Player of the Year.

The 30-year-old winger is known for his terrific pace and finishing ability. Despite his clear talents and attacking prowess, Bassett has yet to force his way into the full national setup, besides the odd training camp with England.

If there was any doubt about this man's calibre however, just check out the video below:

On joining the famous Harlequins outfit, Bassett had the following to say: “I’m excited to join Harlequins and am grateful for the opportunity to jump straight back into action with such a prestigious club. Quins play an exciting brand of rugby and I’m looking forward to trying my hand at the Harlequins Way of playing.”

Harlequins Head Coach Tabai Matson was empathetic to the current Wasps situation: “We continue to be saddened and have sympathy for all the players, coaches and staff at Wasps at this difficult time. We’re happy to be able to support Josh to maintain his career and to have such a high-class operator join the group at a time where we have backline injuries.

“Josh has been one of the most consistently high-performing wingers in the toughest league in the world and we count ourselves as extremely fortunate to have him join us.

“Josh has played in a Wasps team that has embraced a similar, attack-included mindset to our own philosophy and I’m sure he will slot into the Harlequins Way of doing things smoothly.”
