Referee gets big whack in the cheek but toughs it out despite the pain

French referee Vincent Blasco-Baque took a hefty knock last weekend in the Top 14 when Stade Francais flanker Sekou Macalou charged into him. He showed that the modern day ref is probably tougher than we think.

The knock shook the referee, as Macalou's forehead appeared to make contact with Blasco-Baque's cheek after he was pushed forward from behind after finding himself in an awkward position.

Luckily for him, it seemed to be nothing more than a big knock, which no doubt resulted in a shiner.

Fair play to him for continuing on, albeit a little shaken and with a nice story to tell.

This weekend the Top 14 continues with Saturday's big clash between Montpellier and Clermont, Castres vs Agen, La Rochelle vs Racing 92, Lyon vs Section Paloise (PAU) and Toulon hosting Grenoble.

On Sunday Perpignan host Bordeaux Begles and Toulouse host Stade Francais.

Love the little push in his back that led to the contact.

Shouldn't the ref send himself off for making contact with the head?
