Rib crunching tackle from French star at the recent Atlanta 7s

French Women's sevens star Marjorie Mayans made this crunching tackle on Ireland's Stacey Flood at the Atlanta Women's 7s in the USA a few weeks back. The hit looked to have caused some real damage, leaving Flood wincing on the floor as the ball was turned over and a try was scored.

While the women's game continues to rise in terms of reputation and coverage, Linda Itunu's huge hit in 2013 was probably the biggest tackle we've seen in recent years.

In that same year Sharni Williams was dubbed the 'Woman of Steel' after she took a brutal double hit in a match against England, and in 2010 there was that famous Nicole Beck covering tackle that injured poor Fiona Pocock.

French star Mayans clearly has a bit of a reputation for being fearless on defence, as can be seen in this short compilation from a fifteens match against Wales two years ago. In the full form of the game, she's a hard-hitting centre. Impressive!

In my older years of refereeing rugby, which I have been doing for some twenty years, I've seen quite a few women on the pitch who were easy on the eyes. I refereed plenty of university matches in my day, and the ones with the best legs usually roll up the waistband of the shorts to emphasize it even more. There have been those lookers who flinched at tackling or being tackled, as though afraid their looks might get messed up, and those who ran hard and tackled hard with little regard for how a nose might get broken, or a tooth get knocked out; but that's been said of backs by forwards in men's rugby throughout the decades.

I'll tell you, there's some American women who can make a very hard tackle. I've seen it plenty.

Marjorie! She's fantastic. Best tackler I have ever seen. I think she was originally a flanker before moving to 12.
During the 2014 WC she smashed anyone foolish enough to run her way, it was a thing of beauty.
    It's a pity she went to 7s and didn't play in this year's 6N.

See that line where she took the quick tap? That's called the 10 metre line.

See that line where she got tackled? That's the half way line.

They probably had the fans sitting in the same stand as the camera, but yes, not a lot of people there.

I did not see one spectator in the women's 7's event in Atlanta.

I'm probably going to get shot down for being sexist and "objectifying women" or some such nonsense, but sod it, I'm going to say it anyway:

I find this clip highly arousing.

Look at the timing of that hit and the beautiful tackling technique. Perfectly executed, with exemplary body position. And don't get me started on the way she was lurking out there, anticipating that pass and getting the angle and timing of her run just right. But even more delectable is how after making this cracking tackle, how quickly popped up and hit the subsequent ruck, again with great technique and body position! That kind of quick ball, generated by a lovely tackle and speed at the breakdown, is almost impossible to defend, as it proved to be here, with the flourish added by the winger's unsubtle but effective enough sidestep.

Yes, this is rugby porn and I admit I was salivating at the sight of the wonderful blend of power, technique and timing on display.

Well. What did you think I meant??

On a side note, that Marjorie Mayans is pretty hot and I reckon I'm not alone in having thoroughly impure thoughts about her.

French fries and ribs always work well together.
