Ridiculous pass sets up try as Japan's Top League gives us a sign of things to come

Rugby's popularity in Japan remains on the rise. After hosting a successful World Cup, the 2019-2020 Top League has kicked off and promises to be a contender on the world stage. The lengthy list of world-class names who have recently joined the ranks indicates how serious things have become.

Samu Kerevi, David Pocock, Kieran Read, Willie le Roux, Malcolm Marx, Duane Vermeulen, Brodie Retallick, Sam Whitelock, and Kwagga Smith are all new additions to the competition.

After being pushed back to accommodate the World Cup, things started with a bang on Sunday.

One match of note saw Toshiba Brave Lupus come up 26-19 winners over rivals Suntory Sungoliath.

This Suntory try was particularly noteworthy as Kotaro Matsushima went between the legs to help seal a brilliant phase and some hard running by Samu Kerevi.

We'll keep an eye on the league and cover the best moments from it when possible.
