Sam Cane's bloody headclash with teammate Owen Franks

The All Blacks' brutal 29-15 bonus point victory over South Africa at Eden Park came at a price with several players picking up knocks. Dan Carter injured his collarbone in a well documented collision with Bismarck du Plessis and another on the casualty list was number 7 Sam Cane, who ended up on the losing end of a nasty head clash.

The talented youngster chose the wrong person to knock heads with, however it wasn't actually a South African, it was his own teammate. Owen Franks' head has proven to be one of the hardest in world rugby. You can check out some of his most notable smashes in the related posts below.

This was Cane's 10th test for the All Blacks and fortunately the head gash didn't keep him out of the action for too long. The medics soon patched him up and he returned to the field heavily bandaged and gave one of the stand out performances.

Following the game he tweeted about the ferocity of the encounter, reasuring fans he was ok.

Cane's recent performances have proven he has the talent to deputise for the injured McCaw. It is clear from this incident that he also has the physical toughness to go the distance as an All Black.
