Edinburgh Rugby have announced the signing of talented Munster flyhalf Ben Healy on a two-year deal beginning at the end of this season.
Despite reportedly putting an offer forward Munster lost out to Edinburgh with Healy citing career goals as a motivating factor.
An Irish under-20 star, Healy qualifies for Scotland through his grandparents with international ambitions likely a driving factor behind the move.
Having seen himself leapfrogged by Jack Crowley in both the Munster and Ireland pecking order, Healy’s road to international rugby is perhaps more straightforward in Scotland.
Speaking about his excitement on joining Edinburgh Healy said, "It's clear how much they want to play. I'm looking forward to putting myself into a new environment and seeing how I go."
"I'd like to thank everyone at Munster for their support over the last few seasons. I've loved every minute of my time playing with the club, but I felt now was the right time to take on a new and exciting challenge in Edinburgh." Healy concluded.
Clearly excited about the prospect of having the quality 23-year-old playmaker in his squad, Edinburgh coach Mike Blair said "He's a quality playmaker who brings excellent game management and kicking ability to our already talented group of 10s.
"He's kicking at goal at over 90% accuracy so far this season while his performances - from both the bench and in starts for Munster - have been hugely impressive.
"He's got great calmness around the way he dictates play and influences matches."
Healy’s departure is a blow for a Munster side who appear to be making progress under the tuteledge of Graham Rowntree and his coaching staff.
For Edinburgh and Scotland, Healy’s pedigree is a significant boost to their flyhalf ranks heading into the Six Nations and World Cup.
