Sharks score funky try in URC clash with Connacht

It has been a rather torrid start to the 2023/24 season for the Hollywoodbets Sharks in the United Rugby Championship (URC).

The Durban based side currently sit bottom of the table with five losses from five outing to date.

Starting their season on the road for the first four matches, John Plumtree's side returned home in round five to face Irish side Connacht.

The Galway based side arrived in Durban having lost just one fixture so far this season as they fell to a Ben Healy drop goal against Edinburgh in round four.

Thus they arrived in Durban confident of causing an upset, which they duly did as they secured 13 - 12 courtesy of a late JJ Hanrahan penalty.

Whilst the Sharks may have dropped to another loss, they did manage to score one of the stranger tries you will see this season.

Having pressured Connacht's line for a sustained period, the Sharks appeared to butcher a brilliant opportunity.

Appearing to knock the ball on, Sharks fullback Aphelele Fassi juggled a tricky pass from Lukhanyo Am.

Fortunately for the Sharks, the ball came off Fassi's leg for the onrushing Werner Kok to bounce on.

The former 7s star then glided over the line untouched to put the Sharks into the lead.
