Sir Clive Woodward Blasts The RFU And Eddie Jones Following Dismal England Performance

World Cup winning coach Sir Clive Woodward has once again taken aim at the RFU and there seemingly unwavering support for head coach Eddie Jones.

Speaking to the Mail on Sunday, Woodward said “This was the worst week in English rugby history,”

“The game in this country is a total shambles and defeat to a South Africa side without nine of its best players showed it.

“When are the leading figures at the RFU going to wake up and realise English rugby is in trouble? Everything is not OK. Eddie Jones will be allowed to carry on as he likes yet again.

“I was lost for words watching the South Africa game. It was that bad. It was one of the most depressing games I’ve seen at HQ. The England team is miles off where it needs to be.

The interview came in the wake of England humbling 27 – 13 loss at the hands of South Africa this past Saturday.

As a result, this was one of England’s worse in recent times, but the performance was very much in line with three of their four Autumn Nations Series tests.

Outside of a thumping of Japan and ten minutes against New Zealand, England have looked abject to say the least.

Against South Africa the Twickenham fans were left so enraged that they began booing the team at full time, a point that sticks with Woodward.

“I’ve never seen people booing at the final whistle at Twickenham before. It really, really hurts me to see and hear that. I hate it. But at the same time, it also reflects where England are at right now.” Woodward concluded.

Bearing in mind Woodward oversaw a 76 – 0 loss at the hands of Australia in 1998 before leading England to World Cup glory in 2003, this is a pretty damning statement to suggest this is one of the worst performances he has seen.
