WATCH: These baffling plays make you wonder what they were thinking

Rugby is all about fine margins, meaning that doing the right thing at the right time is crucial to a team's chances of winning. Get it right, and you're a hero; get it wrong and you end up going viral or in a YouTube compilation!

We all understand that tensions run high in tight matches, and that players will invariably make mistakes. Some errors are a result of taking a chance while others leave you wondering just what on earth they were thinking about in the first place.

Some of them are frankly, baffling. Such as Felipe Contepomi's miscalculation against Toulouse, thinking that he was dropping a goal to level the match, he'd actually all but secured a 18-15 defeat in the closing seconds.

Similarly, Ben Botica inexplicably kicking away possession for Harlequins against Montpellier in the European Challenge Cup final in Lyon was another head scratcher.

Others have come as a result of unfortunate circumstances. Brice Dulin copped a lot of slack this year after conceding a penalty while trying to kick the ball dead in the dying seconds of France's final Six Nations match against Scotland.

Dulin's error gave Scotland one final chance to snatch victory, which they did courtesy of Duhan van der Merwe.

Iconic moments such as David Campese's calamitous fumble in the Lions test series in 1989 and Lionel Beauxis's "no hands" kick attempt are also featured in this thoroughly enjoyable compilation.
