Star number ten well and truly cleaned up in big tackle by Wellington youngster

Tasman beat Wellington 28-22 in an entertaining game of Mitre 10 Cup rugby in Wellington earlier today. Both sides showed huge physicality and skill throughout, but it's Tasman who move to the top of the table.

Tasman number ten Mitch Hunt was a key player for the visitors, making some crucial long passes and breaking the line on more than one occasion.

But midway through the second half the Crusaders and Tasman pivot got well and truly cleaned up by young Billy Proctor.

The hit was perfectly timed and executed, getting the better of the more experienced Hunt and also forcing a turnover.

Regardless, Tasman was the better side on the night and the win sees them edge Auckland at the top of the Mitre 10 Cup Premiership standings, albeit having played an extra game.

"I'm really proud of the boys and the way they stuck out the last 20 minutes," said Tasman captain David Havili.

"They're a bloody good side and I'm so glad we kept them out. It's not easy to break the line in this Mitre 10 Cup, so we just built phases and slowly broke them down."

Tasman head to Dunedin to face Otago next Sunday, while Wellington host Auckland on Thursday.
