Stuart Hogg awarded Player of Six Nations Championship for second year in a row

Scotland fullback Stuart Hogg has been named the RBS Player of the Championship for the second year running after another sensational Six Nations tournament. Watch the moment he found out with his clubmates, as Gregor Townsend announced the award.

The results are in and Hogg has been voted the 2017 RBS Player of the Championship. Securing over 24.6% of the public vote, the full back received the backing of 29,734 fans.
 
In addition to the public vote, Accenture, Official Technology Partner of the RBS 6 Nations, has been working closely with Accenture Analysis Team member, and former South Africa and Italy coach, Nick Mallett to draw up the final shortlist of 12 players.

The shortlist was based on a specific algorithm created by the technology partner where players at every RBS 6 Nations match this year have been awarded (or deducted) points based upon several different performance categories which cover all aspects of the game.
 
Hogg may have been a fair distance ahead, which reflected his second standout RBS 6 Nations in a row, but CJ Stander came in second place with 14.9% of the vote for his significant role within the Irish Squad.

Third place was awarded to Louis Picamoles with 12.8% of the votes, followed by Joe Launchbury (8.9% of the vote). Finn Russell's notable performance was recognised with the Fly Half finishing 5th (8.3 % of the vote), ahead of scrum half, Conor Murray in 6th with 7.9 % of the vote.
 
Hogg, who made his 53rd appearance for Scotland during the Championship, commented: "To receive this award again is an absolute honour, particularly when you take other players on the shortlist into account.

"I'm delighted to be awarded the RBS Player of the Championship Trophy and would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who voted and the fans for their continued support throughout the Championship."

    Yeh, but isn't Savea relatively slow for a winger?....ok, I've googled it and everything seems to say the contrary... but I'm sure that was an armchair theory that was batted about, therefore it's pretty much a scientifically proven fact..

    as much fun as it is to joke about gatland going to pick 37 Welshmen and play warrrenball, I really hope/think he must be a little smarter than than. And the reason that he chose that style of play for Wales is that that was what would get them results. Hopefully, he will see the only way to beat NZ is to attack and score more tries than them, so he has to pick players like Hogg. NZ are going to score lots of tries. We just have to score even more.

    Hogg is a much more mature player, but he cannot play Gatball. That is both a compliment, and the biggest hurdle he has to leap to make the Lions 15 shirt.

    Mike Brown, Liam Williams, and Leigh Halfpenny can bang 60m clearances all day... it is boring to watch, but this is a Lions tour, not the Barbarians.

    Such is the duality of the modern game. Do they play to put arses in seats, or to put points on the board?

    I might be wrong, but has Hogg shown anything other than maturity this 6N?

    I'm not saying that puts him above Brown, I'd say on the maturity level they're both fairly equal. In terms of the rest of the game, Hogg brings a good boot, it'll help with clearance kicks and the like, but I don't think it'll be particularly necessary given the depth of kickers...

    Either way, we all know it'll be Biggar at 10 and Halfpenny at 15...

    Hogg's problem is that he knows just how good he can be. He has got 2 Lions tours left in him (this one and the next), if his temperament is managed properly, he will be World Class.

    For solid reliability, I would still pick Mike Brown at 15, but it depends if Gatland is there to play rugby, or to win.

    Stats matter a heck of a lot if I told you he scored x amount of tries and assisted in y amount... What I'm saying is that currently I don't know what those figures are, but if you don't rate him then that's up to you.... Bit sad that's all

    I don't think stats matter much. look at the clip above as a prime example. how many times does he run 20 metres across the field and close down all the space for players outside? Its fine to do that against Italy, but the ABs will just shut him down. Perhaps I was too quick to use mike brown as a comparator. its more like watching johnny may

    Errr, unfortunately I don't have the stats as to how many... but you are aware he was a key player assisting in many tries aren't you? Or was that pure luck?

    Everyone is entitled to their opinion but surely that's just flat out wrong. He has great vision. That's why he can play 10. Look at some of the passes he has made this year for try assists

    Hogg is a very explosive player with ridiculous pace, but I have never rated him that highly. I think he suffers from the same tunnel vision mentality as Mike brown. I.e. Will always go himself and only pass the ball when he's in the shit or there is nothing on. He'll no doubt be first choice for the lions, but I think he will be horribly exposed. Hope I'm wrong. The best players in the 6N were launchberry, lawes, picamoles and lamerat

    Thought it should have been Launchbury personally, but the work of a player in the tight 5 is more likely to go unnoticed than that of other players. Hogg has been excellent though, I would have had him as runner up.

    I'm really happy for you, Ima let you finnish, but Joe Launchbury had one of the best tournaments of ALL TIME, ONE OF THE BEST TOURNAMENTS OF ALL TIME.
