‘That’s football!’ - former England player hits out at Liam Williams

Former England player hits out at Liam Williams on The Rugby Pod.

Former England outhalf Andy Goode has hit out at Liam Williams for a few moments during his performance in Wales’s most recent Six Nations clash.

England beat Wales 23-19 at Twickenham last Saturday in the third round of the 2022 Six Nations. England had a 20 point to 12 lead over Wales 68 minutes into the game. However Wales clawed themselves back into the game scoring with a minute left on the clock to give themselves a chance.

Marcus Smith was the shining star for England as the 23 year old came away with another player of the match performance. Smith scored 18 of England’s 23 points, all coming from the tee. Wales’ indiscipline, especially in the first half, most definitely contributed to their loss on the day.

While speaking on the most recent episode of The Rugby Pod, Andy Goode had some interesting comments to make about Wales fullback Liam Williams. Goode commented on Wales’ performance saying “they didn’t really start playing until the second half”. Goode continues “I’ve got to question Liam Williams though”. “There’s a bit of a footballer coming out in Liam Williams” , says Goode. “Firstly..did you see him when he got sin binned..him holding his hands in his face trying to make out that it wasn’t him”. The former England described Williams actions as “footballer behaviour” and “that’s football, in terms of faking something”.

Goode said “you talk about the values of the game, and how much the Welsh put into it and their backs against the wall and then Liam Williams behaving like that, it just didn’t add up to me".
