Snakeskin shoes and skipping training as Jim and Andy tell stories about Dean Richards

Dean Richards is an England icon, both from his playing days and his subsequent career as a coach. While he may well be remembered more for his role in the controversial Harlequins 'bloodgate' scandal in 2009, his influence and charisma has never been in doubt.

In the latest Rugby Pod episode, Jim Hamilton and Andy Goode reflected on some of the funnier moments shared with Richards, during their respective periods at Leicester Tigers.

Richards is known as a straight talker and someone who takes no nonsense and Hamilton recalls how he was convinced to stay at Tigers instead of taking another offer for Rugby Lions.

Getting sent off in his first senior match for Leicester was probably not how either Hamilton or Richards imagined things going but Richards backed up his second row at the disciplinary hearing, but only after stripping him of snakeskin shoes!

Meanwhile, Goodey came up with a novel work-around to 'prove' he was maintaining his fitness regime...which we've all considered doing.
