The Wraparound from Rugby HQ - Week 1

Comments

Super Rugby is back which means that it's that time of year when the Fox Sports guys put in the long hours to bring us all their weekly serving of random titbits from the week gone by. According to Sean Maloney there will be no more Top 5's, so this new format is set to replace those segments.

On this occasion they feature some outrageous clips from the USA Sevens, a shocker of a missed try from Super Rugby, a George North/Israel Folau renenactment in club rugby and that man Sean O'Brien casually clearing out two or three forwards in the Six Nations, as you do.

For years I thought Botha's name was an allusion to rolling tobacco... until a 'lekker bru in a bok bib at a braai" corrected me (try and say that when you are tipsy). Chefs learn french to work in kitchens, why can't we learn a few words for the global game?

Maybe do a feature for the world cup... Team, highlights reel, 'ones to watch', 'fan culture', and a few words vaguely to do with rugby/day on the beers in the national language.

After the atrocities we witness in football hooliganism (don't get me started on those chelsea fans), sport needs a sense of humour. Sean Maloney and the guys at Rugby HQ get it bang on.

Yeah, tend to agree. Especially with Seanny being such a big lump, looks quite funny too!

I quite like this format though - certainly a lot better than that one they had last season where they just had him talking to camera in a boring deadpan voice. That was like a Lamorghini with wheels nicked and replaced by bricks.

Love that Tonka Tough award - and very deservedly won by that monstrous SOB. And the accusation that he nicked it from a children's sandpit. ;)

But, never mind Top 5s, I still don't understand what was wrong with Plays Of The Week that they had to get rid of it!?

@Guest1978 - yeah, banter with the man himself in the studio. And the little one in the middle does bear some resemblance to 1990s George Gregan to be fair!

Just in case you're implying that there's some kind of lazy racism here, you may be barking up the wrong tree - Gregan was born in Zambia, which in terms of the size of Africa may not be that close, but in the scheme of things it's not a million miles away.

he needs to be standing up - makes a big difference (eg many of the US shock jock radio presenters stand in the studio, they don't sit!)

Sean Maloney seems subdued in this format. There's something about his commentary during the Top Fives that makes them gold. Bring them back - I don't care if there's no more decent material!
