Thierry Dusautoir blind-sides Colin Slade with punishing tackle

Now retired from Test match rugby, former French captain Thierry Dusautoir is still making a big impact at domestic level, as seen here with this crunching tackle on former All Black, Colin Slade. The Toulouse captain caught him unawares, knocking the wind out of him for a second or two.

It followed a typically brilliant turnover by Steffon Armitage, who got over the ball with lightning precision to win a turnover, before Pau's quick tap led to Slade's demise.

While Dusautoir retired from international rugby at the end of 2015, the skipper is still playing at an alarming standard, considering he is now all of 35 years old.

This is likely to be Dusautoir's final season for Toulouse, but before he hangs up his boots, he will lead them in their quest for European glory, starting with the European Champions Cup quarter final against Munster at Thomond Park in April.

This tackle is also included in The 5 Biggest Hits from the Top 14 [Round 17] post

Well, with all the emphasis on dangerous tackles, does it not make sense that if sites like this one, or TV highlights, make a spectacle of hard tackling, legal or not, then there could be more hard tackling as a result, with some being dangerous? Nothing wrong with hard tackling, as it's existed since the earliest days of the sport, but really, did TV highlights 20, 30, or 40 years ago have highlights of tackes? Tries yes, some penalty goals that won games, other flashy play, and sometimes play that was controversial, but there were no highlights of tackles! Now it seems 'lighting' up a player on the pitch is in vogue. All one has to do is make the tackle, not knock the player into the next weekend! So, the result is tightening up on dangerous play, yellow cards, red cards. Maybe the game needs less testosterone, but then again that French woman took out an England player with dangerous play.

Do we even need Armitage when we have Moriarty, Warburton and Tipuric?

Fellow regulars. If you're part of the Superbru group, I've started a discussion board. I think.

You'll know it when you see it...

You won't fish for long if you cast your rod.

I laughed out loud when I saw DrG's original comment, and once again when Oliver commented.

As said before, Oliver, Lawes just hit Plisson so hard he flipped. He didn't lift him. Or maybe Plisson dived.... *hides behind Stroudos*

Last time I checked, he wasn't Welsh, so he doesn't qualify....

Or do you cast a line? Fk, I don't fish...

Toulouse has a lot of trouble to make to the transition to a new generation of players. They had a dreamteam for years (Clerc, Medard, Heymans, Poitrenaud, ...) and made the mistake to keep them for too long: the youngsters left and now the oldies are not that consistent for such a long championship. So the management tries to get rid of them the quickest possible.

Yes, that's true, but without Dusautoir Wasps would have had a comfortable lead by that point imo.

Keeps English talent in England. Apart form Armitage, it seems.

I'll never understand that RFU policy. The FFR has no problems using Picamoles in the French squad while he plays for an English club. It was the same for Chabal.

seriously?? that is NOTHING like the Plisson hit.

I believed Lawes should have been carded because:
A/tackled player went past the horizontal
B/his neck/head touched the ground first.

damn it, I'll always bite on this subject!!

It's not the timing of the hit, it's the way his neck snaps back... ;-)

This should get Oliver's blood boiling, same kind of style as the Plisson hit, eh Oliver! Ball has gone, hit on blindside etc... ;)

Great tackle by Dusatoir, but Armitage's turnover is something else! Steffon is probably one of the biggest losses for test rugby in history. So mismanaged by RFU...

Was he? Not surprising at all and explains a lot!!!

What about that turnover by Armitage too? Lovely stuff.

Unbelievable that Toulouse aren't extending Dusautoir's contract. He was the best Toulouse player by some distance in the recent Wasps-Toulouse game. I can't think of a club in Europe that wouldn't want him.

    "Wazari!"
Yes, Dusautoir was judoka before becoming rugbyman.
