Now just over two weeks out from kick-off of the 2023 Guinness Six Nations, the anticipation surrounding Europe’s premier international Rugby Championship is building.
Following a week of squad announcements, the competition is once again littered with World Class talent looking to lay down a marker ahead of the Rugby World Cup in October.
One of the most interesting subplots surrounding this year’s Championship is the return of Warren Gatland to the Welsh head coaching role.
Undoubtedly the most successful Welsh international coach of the professional era, Gatland carries with him a sense of hope that the Welsh can return to the top table in 2023.
As a nation, Wales bring so much to the Championship both on and off the pitch with Cardiff being rightly regarded as one of the best Rugby cities in the world.
The Principality Stadium (formerly the Millennium Stadium) has played host to some of the greatest moments in the Championship’s long and storied history.
One such moment was this piece of incredible theatre from Welsh legend Derek Quinnell in 1972.
As was the way back in the 70s substitutions were rarely used outside of an injury to a starting player.
But this is exactly what happened as starting number eight Mervyn Davies left the pitch due to injury.
With time expiring, Quinnell made quite the entrance to international rugby as he sprinted through the tunnel onto the pitch.
