Tonga's sensational full field try against South Africa at Rugby World Cup 2007

As the excitement builds towards Rugby World Cup kickoff on September 18th, World Rugby have provided a quick look at a memorable try from the 2007 edition, as Tonga came close to upsetting eventual champions, South Africa.

Viliami Vaki finished the try but the Tongan effort started way back and gave South Africa, who had opted to field a second string outfit, a real scare late in the pool stages.

South Africa hung on to win 30-25, thanks to their big guns coming on late in the game.

This year Tonga are in Pool C alongside Argentina, Georgia, Namibia and New Zealand.

    This match and the Fiji match were real scares for the Bokke. I remember well how nervous I got watching both games! Although it's true that SA played their reserves against Tonga, they played their best XV against Fiji and had another battle. I think it was as much how well the islanders played in both these games.

    The weird thing in hindsight is that SA won this WC beating England twice, and Argentina (in the case of the latter, it was their breakthrough WC, when they properly announced themselves as a force in the game). But we didn't face any other top-tier teams.

    Hard to believe SA barely beat tonga and Fiji but still won the RWC

    Brilliant try! Also interesting to see that the last person chasing right before the try was Matfield.. Good effort from him to get back even if it amounted to little in the end!
