His rugby story has been fairly well told over the years, but many of us have always wondered what went wrong along the way. There were a number of off field issues that no doubt hampered his progress with turning that raw talent into a sustained career that set him up for life.
Sadly, it never happened and despite being considered by some as the greatest attacking rugby player to ever play the game, the man known as Caucau now lives back home in his tiny, remote village, struggling to make ends meet.
The Fijian legend's story serves as a cautionary tale for professional rugby players of today, who need to be wiser in the way that they invest and distribute their hard earned revenue from the sport.
HELP NEEDED
Caucaunibuca is now in the unfortunate position of needing outside help, so Leo - and the Pacific Rugby Players Welfare organisation - have set up a Just Giving page to try to raise some much needed funds to help out the former star winger and his family.
The goal is to help turns things around so that he can earn a sustainable income.
"After inspiring and entertaining so many of us through his career, we invite the Rugby Family to help us give Rupeni a 2nd chance, to turn his life around, and to give his story the positive ending that it truly deserves," explains the donation page.
