Two French players and one Irishman nominated for Six Nations player of the tournament

The nominations have been named for Six Nations player of the tournament.

France are Grand Slam champions for 2022 having not won the championship since 2010. The nominations for player of the tournament reflect France’s dominance in the tournament too.

For France, World Player of the Year Antoine Dupont and number 8 Gregory Aldritt are France’s representatives as nominations for player of the championship. The third nominee is an Irishman, Josh van der Flier.

Josh van der Flier was player of the match in Ireland’s win over Italy at the Aviva Stadium in the third round where Ireland came out 57 points to 6 winners. This game was also dominated by the controversy and confusion surrounding a red card to Italy, forcing them to play with 13 men rather than 14. Andy Farrell said about van der Flier’s performance “Josh rolls on, doesn’t he?”.

Gregory Aldritt received 2 player of the match awards for France during their campaign. The first came against Italy where France came out on top 37-10 with a dominant second half display. His second came in a game that would ultimately decide the championship in round two as France took on Ireland in Paris. France came out on top 30-24 in a nail biting affair.

Antoine Dupont has been one of the best players in World Rugby arguably over the past 2 years. His list of accolades is impressive. Last year he played a pivotal role in Toulouse’s double, winning both the Top14 and the Champions Cup. He scooped World Rugby player of the year for 2021 and now can add Grand Slam captain to his rugby CV. Dupont came away with the player of the match award in the final game of the championship as France beat England 25 points to 13.
