VINE: Fight for ball results in US College rugby player slammed

So this happened. Mouse over and hit the volume icon for the full WWE effect. It's not clear what exactly is going on here, but one player gets dumped to the turf as both fight for the ball. The ref isn't too pleased, and the powerhouse doing the lifting is just as surprised.

It goes without saying that the audio is edited, if you weren't sure.

It's the University of California vs the University of Pennsylvania, and Kutztown's Bilal Hassen is the guy doing the lifting, while Cal's Paul Bosco got slammed. Hassen received a yellow card, and Cal went on to win the Collegiate Rugby Championship 17-12 in overtime.

    You know, a smart player would have just waited for the other guy to release him - according to the player himself, he knew there was advantage; based on the reaction of the players around the ruck, the whistle had gone and the penalty given. Pretty safe bet that your team would benefit more from you leaving the other guy alone.

    As to your question:
    "Now my question is how do I put a player down if I'm the ball carrier and his arms are locked on my neck and he's already on my shoulders?"

    I have a simple solution - one I use every time I pick up something and need to put it down: reverse what you did to pick the bloke up. Come on now: bend your knees, lean slightly forward, and now that his feet are on the ground, let him go. Easy, isn't it?

    If it was a championship final then why would you lift the player up? Ok, he was holding onto you, but you stood and dropped remarkably quickly. You also pushed his leg up and backwards over your shoulder.

    You can complain about the referee all you like, but you made it easy for her.

    Haha I love how everyone's coming up with their own theories in what happen. As I was involved let me tell you what happen. I took a clean turnover and the ref held her hand out to our advatage. I stood up with ball in hand and the opp player had his arm around my neck, and when I was already standing the ref say "Put him down!" Now my question is how do I put a player down if I'm the ball carrier and his arms are locked on my neck and he's already on my shoulders. All I did was stand up with the ball and then he fell with me. Ok fine, say the ref made made a mistake, their humans too. It's fine, but under what basis did the yellow card come from? It's either a red card or advantage my ball cause of the turnover. And in a championship final when the score is 12-12 and one minute to go she makes this call. Controversial decision? You decide for yourselves :) #EnjoyRugby

    well in the case of a tackle i would agree with you but come on the guy just stood up. number 7 white should have let it go earlier! that is pure rubbish!

    for christ sake a yellow for that? surely the ref got it wrong it's not a tackle or anything. the guy juste stood up it's not his fault if the other guys completely missed his clean out!

    He didn't drop him, the player didn't land on his shoulders or neck... which rule would he have been given a yellow over? Just being a generically 'dangerous tackle'?
