Dave Rennie’s Wallabies have well and truly shown their pride for the gold jersey, repelling South Africa’s giant runners time and again.
Rushing out to an early 10 – 0 lead courtesy of the sensational Fraser McReight who powered over for a try.
McReight would be a constant pest for the Bok pack throughout the half as he turned them over time and again.
South Africa dominated the proceedings throughout the half but had very little to show for it as the usually reliable Handre Pollard missed two relatively easy kicks.
Pollard would eventually get the Boks on board with a penalty which was scant consolation for the amount of possession and territory the Boks had throughout the forty minutes.
The Wallabies under immense pressure conceded just one yellow card with winger Tom Wright being sent to the bin for an offside infringement.
The Gold wall however stood tall and quite frankly stopped the Boks from even looking likely to score.
On the stroke of halftime Bok scrumhalf Faf De Klerk was shown a rather dubious yellow card for a high tackle on opposite number Nic White.
In a rather ugly incident White clearly dove before De Klerk marginally hit him in what will undoubtedly be a much-debated call.
At the half a brave and clinical Wallabies side lead the Springboks 10 – 3.
