Wasps and Worcester takeover decisions expected by Christmas

It’s been a nightmare year for both Wasps and Worcester, with both sides being suspended from all competitions amid severe financial issues.

Both sides entered administration earlier on in the year, with all staff and players having their contracts terminated with immediate affect.

On a positive note there was soon movement by various potential buyers looking to resurrect both sides, a possibility that filled supporters with much relief.

The resulting interest led to the following:

Wasps are due to be taken over by a consortium including former players in an offer that was accepted on the 30th October.

On the same day Worcester agreed a takeover by Atlas Worcester Warriors Rugby Club Ltd, run by former Warriors chief executive Jim O'Toole.

The original deadline set by the RFU for the completion of the takeovers was expected to be this coming Monday, however the English governing body has expressed their flexibility on the matter with an extension.

An RFU spokesperson said: "We continue to work collaboratively with the prospective owners as we undertake full due diligence.

"The club financial viability group will make a recommendation to the RFU board.

"We expect a decision ahead of Christmas. We will provide an update then."
