Wasps latest - Possible location change and update on current players

Its safe to say that the last few months have been greatly disappointing and unfortunate for the English rugby community.

After the extremely sad  news surrounding Worcester Warriors this week, fans were also updated with the future of another Premiership club seemingly on the brink - Wasps Rugby.

It was announced in recent weeks that Wasps would contact administrators to try and improve the situation at the club. However, it has emerged today that once administration proceedings have been initiated, Coventry City Council would be within their rights to force Wasps out of their current stadium (Coventry Building Society Arena).

This news has only added to the uncertainty around the great club and fans have been quick to ask what comes next. If they are removed from their stadium, rumours are already circling over whether a return to London would be possible to ensure the club has a future.

Lee Blackett has remained frank and honest throughout the turmoil, and deserves a lot of credit for that. Yesterday he revealed that the club will not be able to offer current players new deals.

On the situation of Wasps, a statement from Coventry City Council said:

"It is true the lease may give rise to a right to forfeit if the tenant enters into some kind of insolvency regime but there are restrictions on that.

"We continue to monitor the situation and will act in the best interests of Coventry City Council and the arena asset.

"We are closely monitoring the situation and we are engaging with advisors and some potentially interested parties if requested as part of the process, in line with our role and responsibilities as freeholder of the asset."
