Watch Adam Hastings hit 50m+ match winning drop goal in extraordinary scenes

London Irish Vs Gloucester was always going to be a tight game, with very few able to predict the outcome from the start. As the game progressed there was still very little indication as to who would come out on top.

It had the feeling that one moment of magic would be needed to secure the victory for one side or the other. As moments of magic go, it doesn’t get much better than the pure wizardry pulled out by Adam Hastings last night.

As Hassell-Collins cleared the ball to relieve some pressure on the Irish line, Hastings was waiting patiently to collect it in his arms. With his Gloucester side one point down with just under 20 minutes to go, the Scottish fly half decided to have a pop at goal from his own half. Well over the halfway line and to the side of the pitch without a defender in sight, Hastings took one look at the posts and went for the almighty drop goal.

Despite looking like a shanked kick initially, the ball sailed low over 50 metres and cleared the uprights to secure what would eventually end as a 21-22 victory to Gloucester.
