Two tries from Springbok debutant Herschel Jantjies helped South Africa secure a bonus point win over Australia in the opening game of the 2019 Rugby Championship.

Jantjies’ first try came just 10 minutes into the game when he finished off a wonderful attack down the wing and his second score was a cheeky pick-and-go down the blindside 20 metres from the line.

The 23-year-old half back was one of the standout performers for South Africa, who scored five tries to the Wallabies’ two - although it should have been three tries for Australia had Dane Haylett-Petty not dropped the ball over the line in the first half.

There were some inspiring moments of play by South Africa at Ellis Park and the 100% kicking stats from fly half Elton Jantjies meant the home side scored more than double the points tally of Australia, who looked disjointed across the park.

The game finished 35-17 in Johannesburg and full match highlights are available below:

Not so long ago Rassie wasn't sure who would replace Fourie du Preez and make the No.9 jersey his own. Not many players were putting their hands up. Today he has to decide whom of Faf de Klerk, Herschel Jantjies and Cobus Reinach to drop from a match day squad. Isn't the world a crazy place?
