WATCH: Clermont backrow Fritz Lee with hilarious trickery on opponent

Fritz Lee surely knows how to get one up on the opposition.

Fritz Lee has been a key name for Clermont over the past 9 years. He joined Clermont in 2013 just after Clermont that previous season had contested the Heineken Cup final. Clermont lost 15-16 to Toulon at the Aviva Stadium. Although Clermont are yet to win the European title, Fritz Lee played in the 2015 Champions Cup final against Toulon at Twickenham. Clermont once again narrowly lost out 18 points to 24.

Lee was born in Samoa but grew up in New Zealand. He attended Tangaroa College in Auckland and represented New Zealand 7s. He represented Counties Manukau in the ITM Cup from 2007 until he was signed by Clermont in 2013. He also had a brief stint with the Chiefs in Super Rugby. The 33 year old has been a driving force for Clermont since he joined and won the Bouclier de Brennus in 2017 when they beat Toulon 22-16.

Fritz Lee is a multi dimensional player which is a key and valuable asset for any team. Playing mostly as a number 8, he can run the ball hard at defences getting over the gainline or get his hands free to throw and offload, keeping the play alive. However, there is another element to his game which you might not have expected.

During Clermont’s last Top 14 league game against Brive, Fritz Lee played a bit of trickery after a Clermont score. Following a score from George Moala, Fritz Lee had fallen over the tryline helping Moala to get over the line. Fritz Lee saw a Brive player in front of him and cheekily untied the Brive’s players' laces! Clermont went on to win 41-10. That’s not something you see in professional rugby every week!
