The legality of Northampton Saints’ final try against Benetton has been questioned after the scorer Ollie Sleightholme looked to have obstructed a player off the ball.
Sleightholme appeared to step across Benetton winger Monty Ioane while the ball was in flight which prevented Ioane from making a tackle on Saints’ George Furbank.
This gave Furbank the space to make a half break and feed Sleightholme for the try, which was converted to level the scores with 25 minutes left on the clock.
Saints went on to win the game 32-35 at Stadio Comunale di Monigo, leaving them second in Pool 1 of the Champions Cup.
