WATCH: Fiji 7s team have WHOLESOME moment with mascot before final

It’s hard not to love the Fiji 7s team.

Not only do the Fiji 7s team produce stunning rugby, they also have won the hearts and minds of many fans by just being themselves. Fiji have been a dominant force in the world of rugby 7s, for as long as the game has existed. They’ve gone through rough patches of under performance, plagued by things such as political and resource issues but in the last roughly 10 years, they’ve always been near the top.

Since rugby 7s was introduced to the Olympics for the 2016 games in Rio de Janeiro, Fiji claimed gold beating Team GB comprehensively 43-7. At the 2020 Tokyo Olympics (held in July 2021), Fiji once again secured gold making Fiji the only nation to win Rugby 7s at the Olympic games. When they won gold in 2016, it was the first medal won by the country at the olympic games, EVER.

Fiji had a rocky start to the 2022 World 7s Series, losing out to USA in the Dubai November event and failing to make the cup quarter finals in Dubai in the December event. They did not play in Malaga or Seville in the Spain legs due to travel and quarantine logistical issues. However, they returned to Singapore with their squad bolstered by player coach and 7s legend, Jerry Tuwai. Fiji lit up Singapore beating New Zealand in the final 28-17.

They had a decent run the following week in Vancouver, however they were outplayed by Argentina who won their first World Series event in 14 years! Shining young star Marcos Moneta had a stunning performance during the weekend.

Leading up to the final, there was a wholesome moment between the team and the ball boy/mascot prior to their final against Argentina in Vancouver. Check it out below.

Just another reason to love Fiji 7s!
