It was only in the last fortnight Zac Guildford was reprimanded in a Wairarapa court and convicted of fraud. The conviction relates to funds he stole off his grandfather and his friend. Totalling over $100,000, all used to fund his gambling addiction.
The conviction he received was the latest in a long line of offending for Guildford. He has opened up about his own mental illness, being an ADHD diagnosis, and how that has affected his rugby career and life. Saying that once he had debuted for the All Blacks in 2009 he became ‘bored’.
It’s difficult to imagine this reality as he was living out the dream of so many young rugby players that wish to play for their national team. However, mental illness can be a powerful disease and difficult for many to overcome.
